Since the 2008 launch of the Greater Houston Builders Association’s Green Built Gulf Coast (GBGC) program, it has proven to be simple, affordable, and tailored to the homebuyer’s every need.
The program is unprecedented in the Greater Houston region due to its remarkable ability to tailor itself to the needs and interests of homebuyers in a booming green market within the Gulf Coast area and its unique climate. GBGC is a program right here in your neighborhood built by your local builders, which guarantees local oversight of all aspects.*
Under the program, there are a minimum number of features in the categories of energy, water, and resource efficiency, lot and site development, indoor environmental quality, and homeowner education. The builder attains more points through added features based on a scoring tool that assesses their level of compliancy. Certification levels are designated as Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Emerald level standard.
Families can begin to breathe easier, live smarter, and save money at home with the GBGC program.
The five top green questions you should ask a builder before purchasing a home:
• Are you a Green Built Gulf Coast (GBGC) member?
• What are the short-term and long-term costs and savings?
• How are you constructing my house so it improves its performance?
• How is my house more sustainable?
• How will the green features of this home enhance my daily living?
The GBGC program has the credentials, experts, and local oversight to pave the wave for green building in our area. By building a green community that is an integral part of a concept that is becoming a way of life, the GBGC program exceeds in its class.
*Under GBGC, the GHBA has adopted the National Green Building Standard™ ICC 700. The National Green Building Standard™ allows for flexibility allowing for regionally appropriate green building practices. This Standard™ is the first American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-approved residential green building program in the nation and requires strict compliance including third party verification procedures.
